I am so excited to share with you one of my favorite techniques....sewing. "At this time......" (in my best speech giving voice), "....I'd like to thank my Jr. High teacher, Mrs. Coates, for all my vast Jr. High sewing skills".
I use my sewing machine today for paper more often than fabric, but that's ok! Once I started sewing paper, I never looked back. I use this technique often and I love the look and texture it can bring to a project.
For this project I decided that a fun little treat box was in order and the Fancy Pants corrugated paper was the perfect foundation for it. To begin, gather your supplies...
I used:
Fancy Pants County Boutique Black corrugated sheet
My Minds Eye All is Bright Christmas twine
Sewing machine and thread
1/16th hole punch
Paper trimmer and scissors
heart punch
First I cut (4) 3X3 squares of the corrugated sheet. I placed the wrong sides together and sewed the side, I wanted the stitches to show on the outside. When I had all 4 pieces sewn once, I folded the last edges together to create the box.
Next I made a bottom for this to sit in. I traced the size of the sewn box and then added about 3/4 of an inch to each side. I scored it and cut out the square corners. Using the hole punch I made holes in the corners to use the twine to tie up the box bottom.
I added a little adhesive to the bottom of the box to help hold it in place. Next I wrapped the box with the bakers twine and tied it in a knot. Added a heart, a Fancy Pants chevron banner cut out, and a sticker with the word adore. Last I threw in some silver tissue paper and treats....... It's the perfect little Valentine's Day treat.
If you have never sewn on paper, I dare you to give it a try.
Here is a list of the blogs. Enjoy!
